Some people believe that any government’s money spent in supporting artists like musicians, poets and painters should be spent on other important things. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Amanda

While I believe public services are vital for a country to function properly, I disagree with the idea that government investment on artists is a waste of money.

There are several reasons why financing artists could be seen as a waste of money. Firstly, governments have more important concerns. Government budgets need to be spent on education, healthcare, infrastructure and security. These public services exert immediate impacts on normal running of social life and determine whether the living environment is up to what the public look forward to. Secondly, most creative artists are so professional that they could earn their own money by selling their work, while the weak like sole parent families and the disabled are in urgent need of financial support from governments.

Despite the above arguments, I believe that artists definitely require help from government funding. China, for example, is a country boasting a large number of folk arts, including music, painting, craftsmanship and acrobatics. They serve to educate people about China, and boost China’s reputation across the world by expressing the culture, customs and history behind the artworks. Thus, paying artists to preserve and produce this kind of art, governments can also protect traditions, customs and behaviors of a country. Without government funding, our life would be much less interesting and attractive and we would lose the rich cultural diversity.

In conclusion, there are good reasons why public services should rely on financial support from governments, but in my opinion money for artists should also come from governments.

Introduction

introduce the topic+ personal opinion

Body 1

Body 2
